¡¡Bienvenidos a todos!!
I am Ms. Bergmann, your teacher for this school year. Most students call me "Profe". I have been teaching at Central for almost 10 years and I love being your Spanish teacher almost more than air! I plan to be doing this job for a long, long time.
My goal this year with you is to help you to finish Spanish 1 with a better understanding of the grammatical and cultural concepts that you will need to possibly continue on to and succeed in Spanish 2 next year. You were given a great start last year with Mrs. Moore and we will continue that work!!
We are lucky to have more time in this class to cover material, so that means that we have more opportunities to take field trips. I always take this class on at least 2, which are mandatory and worth a grade (please keep up on your other classes so that you are able to attend these and earn your grades). There is one in the fall at the "Milagro Theatre" right around the time of "Día de Los Muertos", which falls on November 1. At the beginning of December, I always start a book writing project that finishes in May with a field trip and presentation at "El Puente" bilingual school in Milwaukie. I believe that you did something similar last year with poetry. We will be visiting the same classroom teacher.
I spend the first part of the year reviewing the material that you learned and/or became familiar with last year. I'd like to be able to start in on new material at the beginning of October. If we really work well together and stay focused, I'll be able to give you some enrichment in May and June that will really help you in Spanish 2. By the end of the year, you will be at the same place as students in Spanish 1 OR (best case scenario, in my book!!) AHEAD of students finishing Spanish 1, giving you a leg up right away!!
I would love for you to come to class on the first day ready to work. We will be reviewing the present tense conjugations that you did last year and the simple future, which you also did last year. (Ir + a + infinitive) before moving on to irregular verbs in the present and the simple past (by the end of the year).
This is always my favorite class to teach because I get to know each of you so well with our small class size and the way we lean on and support each other. Please don't understand that to mean that I am a cream puff. I have strict expectations and I expect you to do your job to meet them. If you forget what you need to do, I will remind you, but I don't like to have to repeat my reminders, so please do what you are supposed to do.
I look forward to meeting you all and working with you this next year. I will continue to post information for you here on a weekly basis, so please keep the link saved. I will also post reminders about upcoming work, tests and fun opportunities outside of the classroom. You can leave a message for me here or send me an email at abergmann@centralcatholichigh.org or on Facebook (Profe Bergmann).
¡Nos vemos pronto!
